Animal Style Inspired Double Cheeseburger

For the nights you need an absolutely banging burger to stop you ordering a takeaway, make these. Thin mustard fried patties with a deep crust, soft buns, melty cheese, jammy onions and that tangy, slightly sweet sauce layered through every bite. It’s messy, saucy and full of flavour, but still high in protein to keep you full & satisfied. You can lighten them up by using one cheese slice and reducing the beef mince slightly if you prefer.

Step 1

Start by cooking the onions low and slow in a pan with the butter, sugar and a small splash of water. Cook for 15-18 minutes, stirring regularly and keeping them moving so they don’t catch, until soft, golden and slightly jammy. Add another splash of water if needed to stop them sticking.

Notes

If you’ve got sweet relish, you can use that instead of chopped gherkins and juice in the sauce.
